A new, and hotly anticipated, exhibition opens at London’s famous V&A museum this week. ‘From Club to Catwalk’ explores the London fashion scene during the 1980’s and features more than 85 outfits by the most experimental young designers of the decade, including Betty Jackson, Katharine Hamnett, Wendy Dagworthy and John Galliano.
The exhibition includes references from the eclectic club scene of the era and Iconic styles such as Punk, New Romantic and High Camp are on display, alongside outfits worn by Adam Ant and designer and performance artist Leigh Bowery.
Even if you were’nt around to experience the ’80s London club scene this is still definitley an enjoyable exhibition for fashion fans. The inventive designs from a host of Central St Martin’s graduates are not to be missed alongside covers and shoots from the most notorious magazines of the time; The Face, i-D and Blitz.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition tomorrow, here at Yumi HQ we’ve rounded up some of our favourite 80’s fashion moments (see below). To read more about the exhibition or to book tickets go to the V&A website here.
