For our next instalment of Behind Our Print, we’re taking you by the hand and diving head first into a Mexican fiesta! We’re talking vivid colours, iconic prints and evocative storylines that command attention…
Proving that history is still a part of our present, our new collection was inspired by Frida Kahlo’s home in Coyoacán. Encouraged by Kahlo’s unique lifestyle, our range conveys her animal-loving nature, self-portrait perfectionism and obsession with eclectic colours. Her free-spirited attitude doesn’t go amiss either – our designers have paid special attention to her love of fantasy art and willingness to break the mould.
To help you get to know our Frida Kahlo range a little better, let’s go behind the Mexican print and discover its origin:
It’s no surprise that our tunic dress is teeming with animals; Kahlo adopted monkeys, dogs, birds and a fawn. Our designers have been sure to feature her painting desk – notice the easel and embroidered art work.
P.S. It also comes in black – coming soon!
Decorated with rich corals and honey yellows, this maxi dress is oh-so-Mexican. The silky material is perfect for a holiday too, it’s crinkle-free – except for around the ruched neckline.
A little more reserved with colour, our maxi dress features a flattering self-tie waist and a cultural print. It’s got thin straps for catching rays and an infusion of loud florals.
When the weather’s hot, there’s only one thing you should be wearing – this floral jumpsuit! It’s a staple of our collection, and there’s no messing around with the exotic pattern.
Since Kahlo was a renowned painter, our designers have continued her work by creating this watercolour inspired dress. Can you see how it represents her garden? It’s also lightweight and stretchy.
Colours Of The Rainbow
Finally, our rainbow skater dress was crafted using a blend of shapes and textures. The stripes emulate the rainbow, while the tactile fabric creates interest and an enchanting swishing effect.
