Easy Denim Looks…That Don’t Involve Jeans

Ever since records began (and maybe even before that), there’s been no greater love story than between a woman and her pair of jeans – no, not even Romeo and Juliet. And it’s no secret that it’s a staple of every wardrobe: it’s easy, it’s comfortable and above all, there’s so much you can do with them. But while we’ve very appreciative of the hard work they do, it’s time for a switch up…for the better. After all, we’ve been holding onto our jeans for nearly 150 years – yes, really, that long – so it’s time we give someone else a turn. Denim is more than just jeans and we’re here to prove it.

Now, this doesn’t mean you should take scissors to your beloved pair, but we’ve discovered a few innovative ways to refresh your denim collection. Here’s how:

New Lengths

When it comes to trying something new, it’d be advised to take baby steps, starting with denim skirts. Dating back to the 60s and 70s, the denim skirt trend consisted of short minis and recycled fabric. Today, it’s all about length, length, length – we want our hemlines longer than ever and with a few hidden details.

Take this midi skirt as the perfect example: it’s elongated (obviously) and features a gold-tone buckle belt around the high waistline – not to mention to soft-touch cotton fabric. And from t-shirts to voluminous blouses, the options are limitless when it comes to styling it.

Hands-On

Part of the reason, we think, that jeans have been so popular is because of their niftiness – i.e. they have pockets. How hard is it to find a pair of trousers that are guaranteed to have somewhere to hold a couple of hair ties at least? Enter this tunic dress…

Cut in a relaxed shape and showcasing sweet embroidery, we’ve upgraded the light blues from last season and given it an original finish. It also features more comfort than your average pair of jeans and the pockets are bigger. Next excuse not to choose it, please.

Ch-Ch-Changes

A nonboring alternative to the classic look: try lightening your fabric for a flowy-er upgrade. This is done by using a chambray weave instead of your traditional denim. Don’t worry though, it’s still crafted from cotton, so you won’t lose the softness. However, it’s smoother, gentler and arguably more feminine. When it’s done right, it can look surprisingly polished when paired with heels and a crochet bag.

Follow the trend with this wrap dress. The ruffles give it a retro feel, but the short sleeves and tapered waistline make it seem very now.
