Travel Trend: The Amalfi Coast

A haven of Mediterranean culture: the Amalfi Coast is the European hotspot that simply must be explored at least once. Found in the mountainous Campania region, this vast unspoilt coastline is surrounded by sparkling blue waters, house-covered cliffs and busy beaches. Multi-millionaires flock in their masses every summer for a taste of the affluent lifestyle – and rightly so. But, if you’re looking for a low-key and cheaper route around the Southern Italian shore, we’ve whittled down the need-to-know places to stay, unmissable restaurants and – of course – the luxurious dress code.

What to wear

The closer you are to the beach the more expensive it tends to be, but there are some good hotels that aren’t too pricey further up the hill. The Pensione Maria Luisa gives you the best of both worlds: stunning views and fewer moments catching your breath.

What to eat

With pasta and seafood on practically every menu, you’ll never be too far from Italian culinary prowess. Try Da Adolfo, a restaurant that’s located in a private cove, for an experience like no other. Book your table, wait for your jetty outside the Covo Del Saraceni Hotel and get ready for a magical evening. And if you’re tired of your daily lemon gelato, head of Casa e Bottega for a range of salads, juice and sandwiches – it’s like an upmarket bistro.

Your final evening deserves a good send-off, right? So, what better way to say arrivederci to the sea than by sitting next to it? In Positano – a must-see town filled with colourful houses – is the classic Italian-style restaurant, Chez Black. The only way we can describe it is: romantic setting, delicious menu and the pasta looks like noodles…
