Izzy Stocks Blogs On The Tropicana Trend
“The Spring/Summer 2013 prints are inspired by the Garden of Eden, Noah’s Ark, vibrant underwater corals, passion and seduction,” Daniella Helayel says of London label Issa. Nothing says summer more than a vivid print, as Issa displayed with their array of exotic plant, elephant and birds of paradise patterns.
Helayel wasn’t alone in her nature-infused vision; Isabel Marant embraced the Hawaiian dress code in her summer collection, with foliage adorning rompers, Capri pants and sundresses. Her vibrant-orange tinted leaf-prints worked hand in hand with fifties shapes to reflect, in the Parisian designer’s own words, “a bit of Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot in St. Tropez”. Though Marant is the genius of eloquent pattern on pattern for S/S’13, these herbaceous kinds of prints would also work teamed with clean white vests and structured sandals.
Meanwhile, Roberto Cavalli merged near-digital prints of the beautiful flowers found on secluded islands with leopard print to form his Mediterranean influenced S/S’13 line. Flora and fauna inspired prints were complimented by sleek Italian tailoring, and a colour-block palette of electric blues, acid greens and the occasional hot pink. Cavalli offered peacock feathers, python accents and a mystic representation of sea creatures (shimmering sequins, spotted seashells and rhinestones evoked the life of the ocean bed) alongside the wildcat spots that never date.
Whether you’re jetting off to the tropics or sunning yourself in unpredictable England, you can incorporate some Amazonian goddess into your wardrobe for the ultimate in laidback glamour. Channel a sun-kissed floral on a nonchalant pair of culottes, teamed with a covetable T-blouse- the luxe blouse/t-shirt hybrid seen at Chloe. A tribal necklace and butterfly framed sunnies will add those all-important finishing touches. If you’re fearless enough to clash two patterns a la Poppy Delevinge, go for barely-there accessories and elongating, nude sandals. Accessory designer Rachele Cavalli states that a naked shoe’s allure is its minimalistic beauty and versatility. Leopard print mixes well with blue denim (take it from Cara Delevingne) or anything white, though add a zingy tone for the true Cavalli feel.
