Sky High Style: Birdie Prints

Birds are timeless, as demonstrated by Sienna Miller’s famous, swallow wrist-tattoo (see here) and the re-occurrence of dainty wings on the catwalks. Designs took flight at Tibi AW 2012, where designer Amy Smilovic feminised the casual attitude and masculine tailoring of her AW pieces with graphic bird silhouettes in black and navy. While Smilovic’s birdies soared elegantly over silk shirts, skirts and pants, Burberry’s countrified AW12 collection coveted woodland owls that perched on cosy knits.

Actress Lizzie Olsen is a fan of the vintage-look birdie, pictured (top) in an Isabel Marant, tiny bird-adorned blouse. Stylist Joe McKenna chose to put Brit model Edie Campbell (below) in a cockerel-motif jumper for her AW 2012 shoot for 032c Magazine – that’s what we call farm couture!
