Bloggers Edit: Izzy Stocks Picks Her Spring Summer 2013 Top 5

Here are my styling tips for my top five Yumi summer-ready pieces! It was difficult to narrow it down; I can tell you that, as everything in the new drop is beautiful! However, these pieces represent five, on-trend essentials every girl should have in her wardrobe. The Rose and Music print dress (above left) is simply gorgeous! For day I would add cable-knit tights in chocolate and co-ordinate the tan belt with brown, lace-up ankle boots for a vintage twist. I absolutely adore hats, so throwing on a fedora would create the epitome of laidback girlishness. Next up, I love the versatility of the Peter Pan Collar Pleat Top; (above middle)…

    Sail Away with Nautical Stripes

Our nautical themed Spring/Summer 2013 edit is the perfect companion to those forthcoming boat balls, beach BBQ’s and poolside parties; a classic, preppy piece of sailor-chic. Nauticality reemerges each sunny season as an essential staple of any fashionista’s wardrobe. Tommy Hilfiger (above right) took us on a nautical journey along New York’s Hudson River for his venturesome S/S ‘13 offering. Americana reds, blues and whites made up his explorer-themed colour palette, with buttoned-up sailor dresses and regatta-striped, pyjama style suits strolling down the catwalk. Hilfiger was just one of numerous designers to walk the line, with Dolce and Gabbana (above left) embracing the Breton stripe in their ‘Sea, Sun, Love’ collection. Ruler-lined…

    Sky High Style: Birdie Prints

Birds are timeless, as demonstrated by Sienna Miller’s famous, swallow wrist-tattoo (see here) and the re-occurrence of dainty wings on the catwalks. Designs took flight at Tibi AW 2012, where designer Amy Smilovic feminised the casual attitude and masculine tailoring of her AW pieces with graphic bird silhouettes in black and navy. While Smilovic’s birdies soared elegantly over silk shirts, skirts and pants, Burberry’s countrified AW12 collection coveted woodland owls that perched on cosy knits. Actress Lizzie Olsen is a fan of the vintage-look birdie, pictured (top) in an Isabel Marant, tiny bird-adorned blouse. Stylist Joe McKenna chose to put Brit model Edie Campbell (below) in a cockerel-motif jumper for…

    Festive Embellishment

The mood of the AW12 catwalks was adult and polished, with ornate embellishment taking centre stage. Sequins and shimmer have always dominated party wear, but this season designers took illumination to extremes. Karl Lagerfeld decorated his pieces with never-ending glitter and coloured diamond clusters – the perfect compliment to his striking crystal-adorned runway. From lurex-threaded knits to gem-studded eyebrows, everything had the shimmer factor. At Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs glamorized black separates with incredible, iridescent appliqué shapes (below left), while Prada created a showstopper by adding prominent costume gems to a vibrant orange coat (below right). Rachel Bilson embraces Chanel’s mythical glamour in her monochrome frock by the label- the…

    A Touch of Faux Fur

There’s no denying that, baby, it’s cold outside! Designers prepared for the potentially snowy season by adorning Winter pieces with subtle fur accents. Fur featured on practically anything and everything, creating warmth and texture that exuded understated glamour. At Nina Ricci (above right), Peter Copping worked a decorous fur stole into his collection of fifties-tinged femininity, while Rodarte (below right) added an edge to elegant coats and dresses by lining collars and hems with the luxe material. A chic faux fur jacket is an effortless way to keep stylishly snug, as shown by actress Olivia Palermo (above left) and her Pringle piece of cosiness. Channel her en vogue evening look…

    Valentino: Master of Couture Exhibition

Valentino’s Pier Paolo Piccoli and Maria Grazia Chiuri never fail to produce flawless designs. We adored this season’s fairytale frocks contrasted with the edgy twist of leather capes and skirts (pictured below).  As if this gorgeous AW12 collection wasn’t enough to swoon over, Valentino fans will be treated to a mesmerizing exhibition as of November 29th. Featuring over 130 haute couture designs worn by the likes of Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly and Julia Roberts, the exhibit takes place at Somerset House in the venue’s most striking form of staging yet. Visitors will get to play model for a day, sashaying (optional!) down a sixty meter catwalk to view the gowns commemorating…

    The Out-There Knit

It looks like Jil Sander’s bizarre but oh-so-desirable Picasso-themed sweater of SS12 has caught on, as more and more fashionistas are embracing the kooky sweater. A cool and quirky knit is a must-have for your wardrobe and I’m thinking, the wackier the better! Model Cara Delevingne (above left) is not one for following a trend half-heartedly, pictured showing off her Jeremy Scott Bart Simpson-ified sweater. She even has the matching skirt! Alexa Chung (above right), queen of the quirks, snapped up one of the J.W Anderson bat motif knits for Topshop. From Paul and Joe’s AW12 tropical-tiger print (below left), to Topshop Unique’s sell-out, cross-embellished sweater (below right), modeled here…

    The Statement Trouser

I am having a full-blown love affair with statement trousers. And by statement, I mean prints galore. From slim cigarette pants to slouchy styles, patterned trousers rocked the AW12 runways. While Miu Miu (above left) opted for kooky trouser suits reminiscent of funky 70’s wallpaper, Prada (above right) had us solving optical illusions with geometrical trews. If channeling Miucci Prada-esque print on print seems scary to you, then team your patterned pants with clean basics. London Fashion Week saw Poppy Delevingne (below right) showcase her trending trews with simple, chic pieces. Tailoring looks fab too with the trouser – Sienna Miller (below left) took her silk pants from day to night by adding a crisp white…

Rodarte’s latest collaboration is simply genius: sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy have designed a range of funky goods for hot drinks purveyor extraordinaire, Starbucks. This week sees the release of the limited-edition range that consists of a coffee mug, a re-useable cup sleeve, gift cards and a tote bag – all with a stylish grey, white and silver pixelated print. Although the collaboration will be launched in time for Christmas, the Mulleavy’s have stuck with their differentiated outlook on fashion; so not a reindeer in sight! It’s a new but intriguing direction for Rodarte, and I’m sure their digitalized designs will attract new purchasers, as well as the avid Rodarte…
