Trend Alert: Blueprint
Blue and White is the most eye-catching colour combination for SS’13, leading to a host of delicate China blue and striking mosaic prints.
On the catwalk, designer’s played with every shade of blue – from bright cobalt’s at Burberry, Versace, Etro and Felder Felder to lady-like cornflower shades at Chalayan and aquamarine at Zac Posen. But in the end it was the prints which really took our collective breaths away. Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Thakoon all chose to mix their blue’s with aqua’s and fresh whites, the later of which featured butterfly and floral motifs in directional shapes and a mix of sheer and high gloss fabrics.
In London it was a different story as Alice Temperley (see above) showed a collection entitled ‘Return to Elegance’ in the baroque settings of the Grand Connaught ballroom. Full chiffon circle skirts and lace gloves led to a 1950’s debutante feel which stopped just short of feeling old fashioned. Embellishment and embroidery was key here, especially on vintage inspired dresses – both mid and full length – and sheer tops. Delicate China blue prints were offset with ivory and sparkle was provided by rhinestone buckles on skinny waist belts.
