Trend Alert: Orient Express

All aboard the Orient Express with Uttam Boutique! Our Asian-inspired range of wrap dress with origami-like folds, blossom and bird prints and kimono shapes are a perfect way to channel the trend for all things Oriental at the moment.

One of the key trends of the season, the Oriental look first cropped up on the Spring / Summer 2013 catwalks, where traditional Eastern prints were given a Western spin by fashion houses Prada, Etro, Emilio Pucci and Kenzo, alongside the likes of Huishan Zhang, Roland Mouret, Lanvin and John Galliano.

Vivid heron, lotus flower, cherry blossom and hibiscus motifs in prints which hailed from the East were splashed across opulent silks in kimono styles and jumpsuits, cinched with an obi belt at Etro. Meanwhile, Pucci went for luxurious embellishment and embroideries, choosing the dragon as its emblem of choice across fluid separates and show-stopping dresses with sheer panels.  Miuccia Prada (see above) rounded off the Geisha inspired collections at Milan Fashion week with a master class in origami; all rectangular folds, sharp lines, sashes and kimono sleeves in an array of pastel shades cut from duchess satin. But it was the footwear that was the real attraction – models strutted down the catwalk wearing platform shoe boots, highly decorated and with ribbon around the ankles, reminiscent of the ancient act of foot binding.

The Oriental trend is taking center stage at Uttam Boutique this season across our classic wrap dresses. Embellished with sequins, these styles are the perfect dress for a summer wedding or event. Likewise, our bird print kaftan and sundresses in brighter hues, are a great way to wear the trend for daytime. Shop the orient express trend now.
