1. Dress for the weather

In at number one, making sure your outfit is outdoor appropriate is key in winter. Unlike the summer months, you can’t quite get away with forgetting a jacket – especially when the snow arrives, so don’t be sure to cross examine your wardrobe for the warmest pieces.

And since we live in a world surrounded by technology, be sure to download an accurate weather app and use it as your guide for the day. If that’s still no help, we like to follow the general rule of: if the temperature drops to 14 degrees or below take a jacket, and don’t be afraid to take a light jumper that can sit in your bag – you know, just in case.

2. Drink, drink, drink

No, we’re not referring to an extra glass of wine, drinking lots of water can help with keeping your body warm. But, for all those waterphobes out there, making a pot of tea can be just as hydrating. Prefer your hot drink professionally made? Take your reusable coffee to a chain-coffee shop and get money off your drink.

3. Start relaxing

Sometimes, the simplest option is the best, so all we’re asking from you is to consider a hot bath. See, we told you it was simple.

4. Choose your knit wisely

When it comes to nailing your knits, you should know that it’s all about the fabrics. Often, a wool-blend can leave you feeling a little itchy, so this season, our designers at Yumi have gone for viscose fabrics that are completely itch-free. Don’t believe us? Take a look for yourself here.

5. Feel toasty

For instant heat at anytime, give your hands the treat they deserve with a mini hot water bottle. We promise that when you’ve had them once you won’t want to go back.

6. Get channel surfing

One of the best things about embracing the cold is the lack of guilt when staying in and snuggling up in front of the TV. With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the best things you can watch guilt-free this winter:

  • The Crown (Series 3) – finally, we’ve waited two years to see Olivia Coleman as the Queen.
  • The Great British Baking Show: Holidays – if your weekly fix of GBBO wasn’t enough, then you’ve gone a whole Christmas series to get you feeling festive.
  • Living with Yourself – a new series featuring Paul Rudd, who undergoes a treatment to improve himself and gets replaced by clones of himself

7. Eat the right stuff

Here’s our mantra: hot food is the way forward. Whether it’s toasted marshmellows or a warm vegetable soup, stock up your cupboards with scrummy food that heads straight into the oven.

Oh, and don’t forget to whip out your slow-cooker – it’s that time of year.

8. Walk it off

Exercising in winter doesn’t have to be the marathon it seems like – going for a walk can be an easier and less strenuous alternative. Plus, it’s made a lot more fun when you have a furry companion. And although it might be hard to motivate yourself, head outside more and start your new lease of life.

9. Accessorize appropriately

Buying a new pair of gloves can completely alter your outlook on winter. The cosier, the better – right? Be sure to explore the touchscreen gloves that allow you to use your phone.

10. Weekends away

If your home isn’t equip with that all-important fireplace, then it’s time to pack your bags and head somewhere that does. Log-cabins are ideal, but if you can’t afford to splash the cash so close to Christmas, a trip to the countryside will suffice.
