International Women’s Day: The Yumi Team

In honour of International Women’s Day, we’re taking time to celebrate the empowering women behind our beloved Yumi. Over the years we’ve expressed our passion for vibrant colours and quirky designs, but have you ever wondered who created them? With this in mind, and on the day of appreciating female talent, we think it’s only fair to show you the people behind the prints. So, sit back, relax and get ready to be inspired by the ladies who’ve made Yumi the fun-loving, free-spirited and fiercely feminine brand it is today!

Clare

Let’s start at the beginning…no quite literally. An important figure in the brands origin and future, Clare is not only the Co-Founder but the Head Designer too. With heaps of knowledge and reems of creativity, she’s a key creator of our in-house designs and colourful prints. Remember the hedgehog dress? Yes, that was all her. Or, the Florence the flamingo tunic dress? You guessed it, it was Clare!

More so, with so many exciting pieces to choose from this season, we’ve asked Clare to pick her favourites. An impossible task, we know, but here’s what she has to say:

Bodycon Stripe Dress
Clare In Our Bodycon Stripe Dress
“I always love a bit of traditional nautical this time of year after the long winter. I LOVE this dress as it’s so flattering. It’s a perfect fit: the ponte holds you in in all the right places and it’s got pockets, which is great when I’m at work. I wear it with my trainers for a more relaxed look.”

Elle

Working alongside Clare in the organized chaos of the artistic design room, Elle is our Head Children’s Designer. With an undying passion for kid’s fashion, Elle has been the life and soul of Yumi Girl for the last five years. From designing floral prom dresses to travelling abroad for global inspiration, there’s nothing she can’t create.

It’s an exciting time of year for Elle too. With Mother’s Day coming up at the end of the month, our Mum & Me collection (that’s co-designed by Elle) will be hitting the website.

Presenting, Elle’s winning piece:

“Escaping to the sun is one of my favourite things to do. Also, this dress will be such an easy piece to throw in my suitcase for the Summer. The bright colours have got me dreaming of my holidays already and I’ll be rocking it with a leather jacket in Spring time for brunching in East London.”

Mala

A big part of the Yumi family, Mala is not only the daughter of Clare and Uttam, and the inspiration for the kid’s range, but our Social Media Coordinator as well. So, when you’re scrolling through our Facebook, the problematic puzzles you see all come from Mala!

Since she’s a home-grown supporter of the brand, we asked her what she loved the most this season and here’s what she chose:

Rainbow Knitted Jumper
Rainbow Jumper
“This is my favourite Yumi piece yet! I’m a big fan of anything colourful so nothing beats a jumper with a rainbow on it. It also has a multi-coloured thread that adds to the rainbow effect and makes it that extra bit special.”

Here’s to all the Yumi women!
