Weekend Adventure Review: The Hydra x Electric Minds

Last Saturday (3rd October) we adventured down to East London’s Studio Spaces, to attend one of the most talked about winter series “The Hydra.” Teaming with Electric Minds and featuring the talented acts of Levon Vincent, Move D & Mr.G, this line up, this venue, and these promotors sure set its bar high. This was the first time we had visited Studio spaces, with many of Londons Venues closing down, its great to have something like this about. 3 rooms, a friendly crowd and enough space outside to grap some fresh air, this may just be my new favourite spot! Move D’s selection of songs (like always) were on point, Levon Vincent mixes were…

Izzy Stocks blogs on the Yumi-Styled Sightseer

The envied life of an explorer galvanized the Spring/Summer 13 catwalks, with Tommy Hilfiger debuting the wardrobe of a stylish sailor girl. Hilfiger mixed jock-jersey, regatta stripes, laid back denim and rope-ties to create a ready-to-pack selection of basic yet incredibly chic pieces. And beach getaways weren’t the only vacation target – many a designer captured the fashionistas eye by incorporating the allure of the rain forest in their designs. As well as offering the nautical stripes, sundresses and tropical bird prints found in any self respecting summer closet, Yumi has exactly what you need to nail the sightseer persona this season. For example, our quirky camera prints exude an artsy vibe worthy of…

    Tea Break Tuesday: Viva Forever!

It’s Tea-Break Tuesday Time! This week our PR Manager Fleur gives us her review of the newest and spiciest musical in London; “Friday night was a trip to Piccadilly’s Denman Street for Viva Forever! – the Spice Girls musical that has been attracting some mixed reviews since its launch late last year (yes, the one where VB tried to ignore the rest of the Spices and steal the limelight as per usual!) We were late for the first 20 minutes and had to wait in the foyer thanks to unreliable London Transport. Once we were ushered in there was an explosion of glitter and lighting as the second scene launched into the…

    A Fashion Adventure: New Exhibitions

Treat yourself to a fashion outing this week by popping into London to view two fantastic exhibitions. First stop: Somerset House for the ‘Tim Walker: Story Teller’ photographic exhibition, which highlights some of the Vogue and Vanity Fair photographer’s most extraordinary moments, all reflecting the theme: ‘Day dreams turned into photographs’. Surrealist portraits influenced by Walker’s fascination with the Gothic fairytale are the core of the exhibition. As well as the images, Walker’s passion for scene construction allows visitors to view various astounding props and models, namely a life-size Spitfire plane and a giant mechanical doll. In one compelling image (above) model Lindsey Wixson is kicked by one – how…

    It’s Pure Time!

So last Sunday it was time again for the UK’s biggest trade show to begin over at the Olympia National Hall. Over at Yumi HQ we’d been planning for some time and created a retro themed and styled showcase for our wholesale customers. Showcasing our SS13 product range, we also had two lovely ladies from Sapphires Models, Amanda and Yvette, to look pretty in our dresses! Pure is always an interesting show, as the consumer fashion world heads into AW12, we’re thinking a whole season ahead to next summer, its a bit of a bizarre concept but one that we enjoy! Pure highlights were seeing our product on several of…

Michael Phelps – Olympic Legend and Louis Vuitton Model

It seems that being the greatest Olympian of all time (he has 22 medals, 19 of them gold!) – isn’t enough for American swimmer Michael Phelps, as he now embarked on a stint as a fashion model! In a canny move from Louis Vuitton, he is the face of the Autumn/Winter 2012 menswear campaign, which was shot by Annie Leibovitz. We love this campaign as it is very on topic, people have so much love for the Olympics right now after the massive postitive success of London 2012. These images link the worlds of sport and fashion wonderfully and we like the fact that they celebrate talent and achievement. What…

    We went to the Olympics!

We managed to blag some tickets this weekend so off we headed to the Olympic Park early on Saturday morning with excitement! We were greeted by many many Olympic staff, all poised high on lifeguard styles chairs shouting through their loudspeakers about the sun, Team GB and pretty much anything to keep spirits high. The Park itself is pretty special, kind of like being at a festival but also being in a theme park. We loved the Meadham Kirchoff inspired coloured floor and the pink theme that runs pretty much all the way through the park – bit like our Yumi pink we think! We clocked some very enthusiastic attendees…

Pop Up London, Let’s Enjoy This Great City!

London is definitely alive this summer with the Olympics taking place in various locations around the city! There is just so much to do – don’t know where to start? We had an ask around at Yumi HQ and here’s our top 5 things we want to do and see: Camden Beach Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, however being in London, beaches aren’t easy to find. BUT thanks to the creative team at the Roundhouse theatre in Camden, NW1 has now got its own beach over the summer, complete with parasols, windbreakers, ice-cream van and plenty of games to play. So get your family together, or the girls…

    Rihanna Rocked the Hackney Weekend!

We went to the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend yesterday and it was AMAZING! Headliner Rihanna looked super-stylish – only she could pull off mesh cycling shorts! (get her cool T-shirt look here) Jay Z popped out to rap on Run This Town and Umbrella for an extra dose of stardom. We loved how the only use of our umbrella for the day was up in tribute to Rihanna’s tune, as it didn’t even rain! The whole day had a great, chilled atmosphere, we also saw Azealia Banks, Dizzee Rascal, Florence and the Machine, Lana del Rey, Wretch 32 and Jessie J. Such a great line up! If you’re wondering why…

What better way than to enjoy the much loved British tradition – the biscuit! From Jammy Dodgers to digestives, custard creams to party rings biscuits are about as British as it gets. Starting today until Sunday 10th June, the Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury will be hosting the UK’s first ever British Biscuit Festival! Yeah!
