Trend Alert: Print Clash

Bold, clashing prints have been on our fashion radar for some time now and once again they made a splash on the womenswear catwalks for Spring / Summer 2013. Here at Yumi we are not one to let a trend go unnoticed so this week we have compiled an edit of our essential prints – from flirty polka dots to on-trend diamond and tile patterns, and our stand-out colourful house motif which is new in this week.

Before you shop the edit, we take a look back to the spring / summer 2013 catwalks. Take note from these masters of print perfection who show you how to clash with the best of them!

Peter Pilotto (see above) provided us with undoubtedly the biggest and best print-clash of the season.  Inspired initially by Florentine frescoes, the design duo combined these with geometric and abstract motifs and gently eased colour into a mainly monochrome palette with flashes of neon. Sporty undertones were made sophisticated with signature brand ruffles and peplum shapes.

Proenza Schouler, meanwhile meant business with modern patchworks and collages of vivid blue, lime green and red, combined with crocket, snakeskin and perforated leather. Photo prints included crowd scenes and kids in a pool, which looked abstract once cut and stitched diagonally. Here, mid length A-line skirts were popular when teamed with boxy, cropped jackets and oversized coats. Tunic dresses were also popular – a shape mirrored in the Yumi spring / summer 2013 line.

Clashing prints and textures are somewhat of a signature for Louise Gray and the spring / summer collection was no different. Outfits were a riot of colour, while graffitied newspaper prints were the main attraction on dresses, crop tops and tights. But it was her collaboration with Barbie which was the most effective. After re-working the Barbie logo into three modern outfits, Gray continued the theme with drawn on zig-zag eyebrows and beauty spots for all the models.
