This year, Mother’s Day falls on March 26th in the UK, giving us all the opportunity to honour the mother figures in our lives and treat them to a special day.
‘Mother’s Day’ originates from Christian and Catholic tradition of ‘Mothering Sunday’, which falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent. It initially signified a time when people returned to their mother church, then later, a day when servants could return home to their mothers. It wasn’t until 1914 when Anna Jarvis established ‘Mother’s Day’ in the USA that both holidays’ popularity exploded. Despite its muddled roots, ‘Mothering Sunday’ is a celebration of love and a chance to give back.
Here at Yumi HQ, we’ve chosen to celebrate by sharing photos of the most extraordinary and influential women in our lives.
Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
